richest in china

Hurun Report, similar to a Forbes Rich List, publishes research and rankings on China's often-elusive newly rich. The richest person in China this year is Zong Qinghou, who tops the list with CNY 80 billion in net worth ($12 billion), thanks to his controlling stake in the beverage empire Wahaha.

The minimum monthly wage in parts of China is as low as $95.

Following Zong in the top five this year are Li Li, founder of drug maker Shenzhen Hepalink Pharmaceutical; Zhang Yin, founder of the paper-recycling giant Nine Dragons Paper; Liang Wengen of Sany Heavy Industry Co. Ltd.; and a tie between Robin Li Yanhong with search engine company Baidu Inc. and Yan Bin of Ruoy Chai International Group, whose brands include Red Bull energy drinks.
