No Vote

Federal and state governments pretend to offer universal suffrage. The US has one of the lowest voting turnouts in the world, and nothing is done about it by those in power, who appear to prefer it this way. Today two large groups find it extremely difficult to vote in most US states — ex-convicts and the homeless.

Having “paid their debt” to society, in a number of states under various rules, ex-convicts, are then again punished by being denied the right to vote.

In the case of homeless people, many states have a law requiring that one must be registered some time before an actual voting day with a home address.  Homeless people don’t have a home address.
