Fact of the Day

Working women in Britain face a 100-year wait to be paid the same as men, with progress towards closing the gender pay gap stalling as younger women's wages lag behind.

The pay gap between men and women in Britain stands at 14.1 percent - unchanged over the past two years.

"We are going backwards and that is extremely worrying," Sam Smethers, Fawcett Society chief executive, said in a statement. "The pay gap is widest for older women as it grows over our working lives but we are now seeing a widening of the pay gap for younger women too."
